Description

We will meet in the lobby of the the Sala Prabang hotel at 5:00 pm. Join us for a walking tour of Luang Prabang’s old quarters, the quaint and historical heart of the city. Luang Prabang has long been considered the spiritual capital of Laos for its many important Buddhist monasteries and temples. The entire town is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and as you stroll along its narrow streets, you’ll get a firsthand view of the town’s well-preserved architecture reflecting distinct eras of Lao history, including the French colonial era of the early 20th century.

After dinner, you might decide to turn in early to rest well before our early start tomorrow. Or, if you’re feeling energetic, opt to explore the town’s colorful night market.

Description

We’ll rise early today to begin our three-hour drive to the remote town of Nong Khiaw, located on the banks of the Ou River. Surrounded almost on all sides by impressive limestone formations, Nong Khiaw is one of the most beautiful mountain towns in Northern Laos.

Once we arrive in Nong Khiaw we will have lunch next to the river. Then we can explore by bike. Cycling mostly on dirt roads, we’ll encounter several small hills that you can choose to climb by bike or on foot. Then, we’ll continue cycling on mountain trails, past rice paddies, and shady bamboo forests to reach the local village of Sop Khan.

Tonight, your lodgings will be a homestay with a local family for an immersive experience in Lao rural culture.

Description

Today after breakfast, you’ll jump into your kayak and paddle down the Ou River. Majestic mountain peaks surrounds you as slowly flow down the river. We’ll have our picnic lunch somewhere on the river bank. We’ll spend a good part of the day on the water before arriving to Nong Khiaw. Tonight’s accommodations, the Nong Khiaw Riverside overlooking the Ou River.

Tonight, tuck in to dinner at the mountain resort and unwind in your private bungalow. After dinner, recline in a deck chair on your private balcony and end the evening drinking in the sounds of night falling over the forest.

Description

After breakfast we’ll start the day with a morning assault on the second-highest mountain in Nong Khiaw. It’s a challenging 40-to-60 minute trek to reach the summit, but once you’re there you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views of the region’s craggy limestone peaks and thick Laotian jungle below.

We will be back at the Riverside Resort by approximately 11. With an hours to shower pack up, check out, have lunch, before the 3 hour drive to Luang Prabang. Here we wish you well on your onward journey and can drop you at your hotel or on to the airport by five, for an evening flight.
